okay immediately wrote to the subject of our discussion of linux.
What is Linux?
Linux is a Unix clone, its kernel written by Linus Torvalds and developed with the help of programmers and hackers from around the world. More can be read on a site owned by my colleague is http://sby.centrin.net.id/ ~ inu /
Linux has all the features that are owned by Unix, including multitasking, virtual memory, shared libraries, demand loading, shared copy-on-write exexutables, proper memory management and TCP / IP networking.
With the feature class 'real operating system' does not make Linux be expensive, even Linux can be obtained free of charge. Even if there is little charge it only as a cost of mere distribution or purchase cd.
Linux is distributed under the GNU General Public License is a license program in which owners retain their copyright but others possible distribute, modify or even re-sell the program but on condition that the original source code must still be included in the distribution.
The hardware required
Linux was first developed for the PC based 386/486 and later developed also for other machines. Until today Linux also runs on DEC Alpha machines, SUN SPARCs, M68000 (like Atari and Amiga), MIPS and PowerPC.
Linux can run only with 150MB hard disk space, 2 MB of RAM but realistically certainly needed more space for development tools, data and so it takes about 250MB of hard disk space and 12-16MB of RAM. Needs will increase when later installed Xwindow etc..
As modern operating systems Linux supports many hardware on the market but some are not supported due to technical problems or a group of volunteers is currently seeking its driver. To check for any hardware that can run under Linux please refer to the hardware compability in http://www.redhat.com
to see the various linux and download its operating system software, can be viewed on the link below :
